Aishwarya is a very supportive and encouraging wife: Abhishek

When spotted together it is evident that they are very much in love -- and Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan has no qualms in saying that his wife and actress Aishwarya Rai is very supportive and encouraging.

"Aishwarya is very supportive and encouraging. She is a very chilled out person and doesn't take things to heart," Abhishek told IANS.

"People ask me if I changed after marriage. But I just say 'Why should I change?' Aishwarya loves me the way I am and married me for the way I am. Then why should I change at all," he added.

Abhishek and Aishwarya announced their engagement Jan 14, 2007 and the couple tied the knot April 20 that year. The wedding took place in a private ceremony at the Bachchan residence Prateeksha in Juhu, Mumbai, but made headlines everywhere.

It was rumoured that Aishwarya would leave her acting career after marriage, owing to the popular belief that married actresses don't do well in the industry.

But the 36-year-old actress squashed all rumours and continued to be a part of the film industry.

Even her husband Abhishek, 34, feels proud that his wife was able to break the age-old notion. "I feel great about Aishwarya's achievements, I'm very proud of her. Whatever adulation she has got, she truly deserves it," he said.

"I'm happy that she broke the notion that women can't work after marriage. Why are we so regressive in our thinking? If she wants to work, her audience wants to see her. What is people's problem? I as a husband am very happy that she is doing so well. I think she is doing better work now," Abhishek said.

The couple has done many films together before and after their marriage. These include Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke, Kuch Naa Kaho, Umrao Jaan, Dhoom 2, Guru and the recently released Raavan.

http://www.vogue.in/content/abhi-and-aish-i-know-karan-johar

The Abhi and Aish I know: Karan Johar

The Abhishek I know: Abhishek's a complete brat! He totally bullied both me and his sister Shweta while we were growing up - he even tied us to a tree once. So even though I'm four years older than him, I'm petrified of him! But he has this endearing quality to him, he can bully me all he wants but I'll never hold it against him. Abhishek is just all heart. I would say he's the most well-mannered, most well-brought-up guy. He stands by his friends through thick and thin, he holds his family and his relationships in high regard, he never forgets the people closest to him. He's a star.

The Aishwarya I know: I remember when I was working on Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, I offered the role to a few actresses, and Aishwarya was the only one who had the politeness to call me back and explain to me why she wouldn't be able to do the film. I was exceptionally touched by her professionalism, and that's the first thing that comes to mind when I think of her, just what a professional she is. She's always extremely correct, whether in India or globally, she's the picture of poise and perfection. Again, she has a strong family grounding and values, and she never forgets them.

Abhishek gets too close to Aishwarya

Have you heard this before - long hours of work and constant travelling leaves no time for love? Well, this happens to most of us but did you know the superstar couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Bachchan are facing this as well. Abhishek’s constant outdoor shooting and Ash’s work commitments have been keeping the stars away from each other.

Recently Abhishek was heard talking about how his long shooting schedules and travel leaves not much time to spend with his lady love - Aishwarya. And he admitted that he looks forward to the Lux shoots as it is his only time with wifey, working together and spending some real quality time as a couple and not just characters.

This is not it, Ash is also excited to join hubby in London where he will be shooting for Dostana, Ash will join him for the Lux Superstar contest, where the winners get a chance to meet and interact with the couple. The couple sure seem to enjoy every bit of the shoots, after all it's work and even more play.

Abhi-Ash to holiday in London

Prithwish Ganguly / DNA

Sunday, July 18, 2010

Mumbai: Bollywood’s star couple Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan hardly got enough time this year to go for a vacation due to their hectic schedules.

However, DNA has learnt that Ash is making sure that the two spend some quality time together in London, the city where Karan Johar’s Dostana 2 will be shot.

Reliable sources close to the couple have also informed us that Aishwarya will be taking at least one week off to be with her hubby and also celebrate their completing three years of marital bliss.

The insider reveals on conditions of anonymity, “Ash will be travelling to London to be with Abhishek. She has made sure that she does not have anything important on her schedule as she just wants to spend quality time with him.

The couple has been neck deep in work, right from shooting for their individual films to promoting Raavan that saw both of them star in it. They hardly had a breather and so as soon as Ash learnt that Abhi will be in London to shoot Karan’s movie, she decided to book her tickets to England too.”

The informer also tells us that Ash has got proper plans in place about what the couple will do in the English capital. “Ash loves London. It is one of her favourite cities in the world and the couple will have great fun there.

We hear Ash has got everything fixed right from them partying to hooking up with their friends to even shopping,” says the source.

The insider adds, “The couple did celebrate their third anniversary together and this certainly looks like they intend to continue the celebrations.

Deservedly so, as both will get extremely busy now with Ash getting on to Endhiran and Action Replayy and Abhi will also be working in a slew of movies.”

We also learn that while in London, they will complete some projects that will require them to devote time.

Ash-Abhi have a wedding date

TNN, Jul 20, 2010

Director Apoorva Lakhia (Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost, Ek Ajnabee, Shootout at Lokhandwala) better known these days for his friendship with Abhishek Bachchan is reportedly getting hitched.

There was a time when Apoorva would hang out with girls like Manisha Koirala and Tabu a lot, but he later became best buddies with AB Junior and has stayed that way.

Guess when Apu gets hitched Ash and Abhishek will definitely attend.

Ash-Abhi to miss 'Raavan' screening

IANS, Aug 31, 2010, 04.57pm IST

Bollywood couple Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan won't be able to attend the screening of their film "Raavan" at the upcoming 67th Venice Film Festival, due to prior commitments with their brand endorsements.

" Raavanan" and "Raavan" - the Tamil and the Hindi versions of the Mani Ratnam film - and Anurag Kashyap's " That Girl In Yellow Boots" will be screened at the festival, starting Wednesday.

"Aishwarya and Abhishek are not going for the Venice Film Festival as reported in some media outlets. The festival falls on the same dates on which they have previously committed. Aishwarya is going for an event for Longines (as she is the brand ambassador), while Abhishek will be busy with a shoot for Omega in Italy," said a source close to the actors.

"There are other film festivals too - Doha and Pusan - where Abhishek and Aishwarya are being invited, to showcase their film or even for individual honours. But the duo will decide which ones to attend according to their schedules," added the source.

Brand Lux: Journey is as beautiful as the faces that endorse it

The Beauty Soap of 'The' Filmstars. Not just any old filmstar, 'the' filmstars that truly matter. The first ever Lux ad featured Leela Chitnis promising smooth skin all the way back in 1929.

As the brand gained traction, it never lost sight of its Bollywood connect — Madhubala in the 1950s; Wahida Rehman, Saira Banu, Parveen Babi, Simi Grewal in the 1960s and 70s; Hema Malini, Zeenat Aman, Poonam Dhillon, Rati Agnihotri in the 1980s; Juhi Chawla, Madhuri Dixit, Sridevi, Karisma Kapoor in the 1990s; Rani Mukherji, Kareena Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai and Priyanka Chopra now. For 81 years now, for filmstars and ordinary Indians, Lux has been one of India's most endearing brands, and sitting inside the new 13-acre steel-and-glass HUL Mumbai campus, Sudhanshu Vats, VP, home care & skin cleansing, tells us why.

Vats, a marathon runner in his own words, has been working on the Lux brand for two years now. Going the distance is not new to him. In the past, he has nurtured and grown brands such as Lipton, Vim, Wheel, Domex and even been HUL's vanguard for modern trade.

The 43-year-old has been with Levers for 18 years of his life, and sustaining the Lux brand now and taking it to the next level is his biggest challenge. With a 14.7% market share in terms of value and 14.2% volume share, the soap brand is still clearly the leader in its category and among the Rs 1,000-crore plus luminaries in HUL's Top 5 brand quiver.

However, the challenge for any market leader is to never get complacent. "The beauty of big brands is that they change, yet they don't change," says Vats.

Recently, the brand experimented with Bollywood actors — Shahrukh Khan and Abhishek Bachchan. Despite the obviously feminine campaigns that agency JWT dished out for Lux over the years, the usage of the brand actually showed a gender split. So the 2005 campaign with Shahrukh Khan featured him in the foreground but flanked by a bevy of Bollywood hotties who had featured in Lux ads over the years — to commemorate 75 years of the brand's existence.

Even the current Abhishek Bachchan-Aishwarya Rai campaign, represents this new playful theme with a game of blind man's buff, where Abhishek is trying to get hold of Aishwarya and her soft skin. On a recent sales visit to Barabanki in UP, Vats was caught by surprise at the popularity of the Abhi-Ash jingle in the ad campaign, used as mobile caller tunes, played on local radio stations and blaring on loudspeakers.

While the overarching Lux message has remained more or less intact over the years, the brand promise has shifted with growing affluence. It is no longer the standard white and rose bars that the company hawks; instead the core SKUs are strawberry and peach with lotus as the third variant.

"You can't leave it at rose because it's too accessible," says Vats. The formulation of the soap has been shifting gears since the 1990s, when floral notes like jasmine and lavender held sway. "As the consumer evolves, his or her preference for fragrance changes from basic to more complex notes," adds Vats. The current fruity fragrances seem to complement the mood of the times.

The brand has also kept up with the times by graduating from soap bars to shower gels and has emerged as the leading brand in the body wash segment. Soap bars have kept up too. Lux was the first to introduce soap bars with fruit bits in them.

And while the urban consumer laps up these developments, the brand today has been made available at more accessible price points to drive sales in rural markets. Vats says that whenever he travels to the hinterland, he sees consumers demanding a Rs 10 Lux.

"Now that sentiment is shared across the country and ingrained in the psyche of village folk," says Vats. In a price sensitive market like India, despite the northbound affluence curve, accessible currency price points act as both convenience and affordability levers.

Vats sells about 100 crore Lux cakes every year. The challenge is to sell it not just across the rural-urban chasm, but to consumers that use the brand from SEC-A to SEC-E, from a teenager to a 60-year-old.

How can relevance thrive in such disparity?

Vats and his team do the thinking by scouting the length and breadth of the country with a nose for nuances. "For example, big is beautiful in Punjab," he quips, explaining why the Rs 65 Lux SKU does so well up North as a 125 gm x 4 pack. So far, the marathon man has been able to keep the brand relevant and contemporary but as he himself agrees, "Heritage is important but you can never rest on your laurels. After all every 20 years, only 30% of the companies remain in Fortune 500."

Abhi-Ash choose brand loyalty over Mani!

Subhash K Jha, Sep 6, 2010

It was supposed to be a handsome entourage of the Raavan team.

The three principal players Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Vikram were to accompany Mani Ratnam to the Venice Film Festival where he is to receive the very prestigious Jaeger-LeCoultre Glory to the Filmmaker Award at the Venice Film Festival on 6 September.

But then Director proposes, Endorser disposes.

It so turns out that Abhishek and Aishwarya would perforce have to opt out of accompanying Mani to the Festival for very practical reasons. One of the Festival's sponsors is a global watch company that is in direct competition with the two watch brands that Abhishek and Aishwarya endorse.

Being brand ambassadors for Omega and Longines Abhishek and Aishawrya have no choice but to give this very important day in their favourite director's life the miss. Says a source close to Abhishek and Aishwarya, "They were extremely keen to accompany Mani. The award he is getting has earlier gone to the likes of Sylvester Stallone and Takeshi Kitano. Little did they know that such an unexpected road-black awaited their journey to Venice.

Confirming these unexpected and unfortunate developments Mani Ratnam's official spokesperson says, "Yes Abhishek and Aishwarya won't be able to accompany Mani Sir to Venice because of their brand loyalty.
