Aishwarya Rai gives Shyam Benegal the nod Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has finally given the nod to veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal. The film to be shot next year would be an out-and-out female-oriented subject to be shot atone stretch. Says Aishwarya, “I’ve been working so hard this year that I haven’t had a chance to look at scripts. But yes, the one that Shyam Benegal has given me is very very special. We’ve been meaning to work with one another for years.” Aishwarya was earlier offered Benegal’s Chamki, his screen adaptation of Georges Bizet’s classic French opera Carmen. Laughs Aishwarya, “I don’t know how many times that has come to me. He needed to catch the mood during winter in Rajasthan. And somehow I never had that window in my schedule.” The new Aishwarya-Benegal project takes the actor into a different time zone. Explains Aishwarya, “We met in Hyderabad last year when I was shooting there and he was shooting Well Done, Abba. I hope to be able to sit down with him soon to work out the details.” Not willing todivulge any more details at the moment on the Benegal project, all Aishwarya will say is, “It’s contemporary. But set in a different frame of time. But it isn’t a period film.” And yes, Aishwarya will finally be working with Raj Kumar Santoshi again. Says the actor, “I think Rajji has been offering me a film almost every year. Only once when I had twenty days in my schedule was I able to work with him in Khakee. Now we’ll do something else.” Meanwhile Aishwarya has a very busy year ahead. After Raavan in two versions,Hindi and Tamil, she has Endhiran in Tamil, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish and Vipul Shah’s Action Replay coming up by the end of the year.

Multi-starrer without leading ladies By: Subhash K Jha Most big banner films that begin shooting soon with multi-star casts, have no leading ladies signed on Quite a disturbing trend, this! Big banner movies with impressive male star casts have little or no female presence. Raj Kumar Santoshi begins shooting an action film entitled Power, which will star Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, Anil Kapoor and Emraan Hashmi. But no leading ladies have been locked in although the film is just two months away from shooting. Says producer Firoz Nadiadwala, "We are in the process of looking for actresses. It isn't easy, since every actor is different in personality and stature. Besides, the focus in Power is on the action." Santoshi and his producer are flying down to Mumbai the team that did the action sequences in The Bourne Identity. The five heroes (Big B included) will be expected to perform the kind of sophisticated acts the Bourne films are known for. Obviously, romancing glamorous gals is not a priority in these capers. No gals here as well Abbas-Mustan's The Italian Job remake features Abhishek Bachchan, Neil Nitin Mukesh and other male actors. The female actors are missing. Firoz Nadiadwala's third Hera Pheri film has Abhishek Bachchan, Nana Patekar and Sunil Shetty. The leading ladies are yet to be cast. ---------------------------------------- Italian Job is still casting for 2 females roles and Here Pheri 3 is not ready to go on floors so it has time to cast an actress or 2 for the film. The Santoshi film will cast an actress before it goes on floors. But it might be a film like Kante which was focused on male characters. Action films can get away with this.

Hera Pheri 3 can't afford Akshay Subhash K Jha, Aug 26, 2010, 12.54pm IST Producer Feroz Nadiadwala waited four years for Akshay Kumar to return to the third film in the Hera Pheri series before they parted ways because of the price factor. With Akshay gone, Feroz had to change the entire cast of Hera Pheri. Now Abhishek plays Akshay Kumar's role. Nana Patekar has stepped into Paresh Rawal's role, And Sanjay Dutt plays Suniel Shetty's part. This, according to Nadiadwala, would remain the lineup of actors for the Hera Pheri films to come. The parting with Akshay over Hera Pheri has left Feroz distressed. "I first started discussing the third Hera Pheri movie with Akshay in 2006. I never wanted to make it without him. It's sad that we couldn't come to an agreement. Akshay is like a brother. But I can't afford him.I hope we work together again very soon. Feroz is delighted with the script that Anees Bazmi has come up with the new Hera Pheri film."It's going going to be one of the funniest comedies in living memory," promises Feroz. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/enterta...s#ixzz0xiOxcCKi

"Dhoom 3 is being scripted; Uday Chopra and I are the film's backbone" - Abhishek By Subhash K. Jha, July 10, 2010 - 11:52 IST Abhishek Bachchan After three back-to-back action films - Mani Ratnam's Raavan, Ashutosh Gowariker's Khelenge Hum Jee Jaan Se and Abhinay Deo's Game - Abhishek Bachchan has had enough action to last him a while. He's all set for a complete change of pace with 3 comedies to be directed by Tarun Mansukhani, Anees Bazmee and Vipul Shah. The decision to move away from grueling back-breaking physically exertive action for a while is a conscious one. Abhishek has just returned from the shooting of Game in Greece and Istanbul And it's instant replay in terms of gruelling action. The action scenes in Game were the opposite of the ones in Raavan. While Abhishek's character in Raavan had to survive by instinct in the jungles, in Game Abhishek performed some slick technically precise stunts. So is he deliberately phasing out his career from project to project, genre to genre? Protests Abhishek, "I'm not the calculating actor. I don't choose the genres. Rather the genres choose me. I follow my heart." The challenge now is, how to make Dostana 2 funnier. Says Abhishek, "Initially I was against doing a sequel to Dostana. I couldn't see how Tarun Mansukhani could make it funnier. How could he rise to the occasion. Tarun said, 'Let me write the script. You'll be the first person I'd narrate it to. If you don't like it then I'd throw it out.' Believe me Dostana 2 would be twice as funny as Dostana." Another sequel to a sequel Dhoom 3 is also about to begin. "Dhoom 3 is being scripted. Dhoom is nothing without Uday and my character. Uday Chopra and I are the film's backbone." Lots of work for Abhishek. "I am impatient. I like to do a lot of work. I'm happy with the zest with which I work. If tomorrow I want to do only one film a year, I'll do that. Right now I'm enjoying being a prolific actor. How many actors can claim to have done two films as diverse as Paa and Raavan one after another?"
